2nd Annual Stuff for Strays - Another Successful Year

Plainville -

stuff for straysThe 2nd annual Stuff for Strays Yard Sale held July 12, 2008 was a great success, with the weather cooperating, with great bargains, refreshments and even music by DJ U4EA. Thanks to a legion of volunteers, a host of generous donors, and a crowd of shoppers, Angelcat Haven Feline Rescue (ACH) raised over $2,500 for homeless and abandoned cats in the area.

Angela Frankudakis, president of Angelcat Haven, was pleased with the outcome. “Our goal was to reach $2,000 and we exceeded that!” Angela said. “It was a great day for the kitties.” Proceeds from the sale go directly to help fund vet bills for the many animals Angelcat takes in. The group has taken in over 250 cats since its inception two years ago. “We are so grateful to everyone who turned out for the event,” she said.

The money generated from the yard sale couldn’t come at a better time, as local animal shelters and rescue groups are full with adult cats in need of permanent homes forcing them to turn many away. Angelcat has taken in 15 stray and abandoned cats over the past week and they need help.

To become a foster home, contact Angelcat Haven at 508-203-4240 or email Foster Home and Adoption Coordinator, Sara Drake at Sara@angelcathaven.com for more information. Visit www.angelcathaven.com to see the cats available.

A Little Girl with a Big Heart!

Charlotte of PlainvilleSeven-year-old Charlotte of Plainville is no stranger to helping others, including the furry kind. She has organized events to raise money for homeless animals, and for her 7th birthday she asked guests to donate cat food to Angelcat Haven Feline Rescue in lieu of traditional birthday presents.

A mature and courteous young lady, you could say Charlotte is well-ahead of her years. She is of the entrepreneurial spirit and already knows how to give back to the community.

When Angela Frankudakis, President of Angelcat Haven, asked why she decided to donate to Angelcat, Charlotte responded that she “wanted to do something nice for her favorite animals – cats.” Charlotte is planning to hold another food drive this Christmas for dog and cat food and donate it to area shelters.

Charlotte ran a food drive last Christmas and donated the items to the North Attleborough Animal Shelter.

When Charlotte and her mom, Jen, delivered four bags of cat food and a case of canned cat food to Angelcat Haven earlier this month, Jen was concerned that there wasn't very much. Angela Frankudakis, president of Angelcat Haven, responded that “any donation is important.” She stated that if every person in town donated just one dollar, Angelcat would have enough to build a shelter and take in even more homeless cats.

“It's the thought that counts, and I hope other children will be inspired to have similar fundraisers,” said Angela of Charlotte’s generosity.

The family lost their 16-year-old cat last year to Kidney failure and when Charlotte's younger brother is a bit older, they plan to adopt another cat into their home.
