A
call for help answered by Angelcat Haven - June 2007 |
|
Recently
we received an email from a woman who was concerned about
a stray pregnant cat that was hanging out in her friend's
yard. No one had room to take her in, especially being pregnant,
and they did not want the kittens to be born outside. So,
one night two Angelcat Haven volunteers met the family halfway
to pick up the pregnant mom... which to their surprise had
given birth to 7 kittens the very night before!
Obviously,
the woman's children were very upset to give Cassie up since
they had been feeding her for quite a while. We explained
that with 7 kittens, it was best that Angelcat Haven take
them to make sure that they all stay healthy and find homes.
The oldest child, Sam, about 10 yrs old, was given a project.
We asked her and her siblings to try and raise some money
to help take care of Cassie and her kittens.
Well, wouldn't you know that she, her brother and her Dad
showed up yesterday! Sam had covered a coffee can with a
hand done crayon drawing saying "Please donate to Stray
and Feral cats". They brought the can with $35.55 inside
it for Angelcat Haven!!
Sam's next project is to hand out some "Stuff for Strays"
yard sale flyers for us. The whole family will be at the
charity yard sale on July 14th, at 36 Bacon Square, Plainville
MA to support Angelcat Haven, and when the kittens are old
enough, they want to adopt one of the males.
So, along with a happy story, we gained a future shelter

Ferals
to go 3-3-2007 Angelcat
Haven dreamed of branching out its rescue efforts toward the
feral community in the future, but we
had no idea our dream would come true so soon. It all started
when Christine from Norwich, CT contacted our message center
with a need to find homes for four ferals that she had trapped,
spayed & neutered. They were living in the duct work of
her washroom. Christine said that no other shelter would help
her find homes for the ferals. After a few e-mail exchanges,
we found homes for all four ferals. Story

ATTLEBORO
When it was time for Meredith Ghizzoni's eighth birthday party,
the invitations went out and a simple request was made: Please,
no toys.
Instead, Ghizzoni requested that her guests - 12 of her best
girlfriends - each bring a bag of cat food for a planned donation
at a local feline shelter."I love cats. They're funny,"
Ghizzoni said. "And I have too many toys."
On Saturday, Meredith and her mom, Lindsay Ghizzoni, brought
the 12 bags of cat food to one of the foster homes of Angelcat
Haven, a 3-month-old nonprofit cat shelter operated out of
Plainville (the Ghizzonis' hometown) by Angela Frankudakis
and Rose Gates. Angelcat Haven, according to its brochure,
was formed to help save a 4-month-old stray kitten named Maddie,
who was turned away from other shelters because of her extensive
physical injuries.
Although Maddie unfortunately did not recover from her health
problems, Frankudakis and Gates wanted to create a haven for
other cats when shelters weren't able to keep them.
"It just kind of happened to us," Frankudakis said.
"We're here to catch what falls through the cracks. We
help where we can."
The shelter is serving mainly parts of Bristol and Norfolk
counties, but has transported cats from Worcester and as far
away as New Hampshire and Connecticut. Right now, they have
12 cats and are very proud to announce they placed six cats
into adoptive homes last week.
The shelter hopes to work hard in areas where other shelters
find their resources strained, including spay and neuter programs,
and developing community trap and rescue programs.
Right now they're looking for volunteers and donations, and
more people like the Ghizzonis.
"I think Meredith is absolutely amazing," Frankudakis
said. "To do something so unselfish and so kind is pretty
unbelievable." Meredith's generous spirit wasn't news
to her mother, although some of the guests' mothers were a
little skeptical. "I really had one mother call me and
said, 'Meredith doesn't want gifts?'," Lindsay Ghizzoni
said. "To be honest, Meredith didn't surprise me, but
I think it's pretty amazing." |
February
17, 2007 Angelcat Havens' first open-house adoption event
had a fantastic turn-out!
|
Five
families came to visit our beautiful cats and even more calls
and applications were received. Three of our beautiful girls,
Riley, Crystal, and Lucinda and one handsome Big Papi have
found their forever homes due to this one day event. A heart
felt thanks goes out to all of you that came to visit our
cats, sent in applications, and to the volunteers that help
make this happen.
Angelcat Haven is foster-home based feline rescue group and
as such it is sometimes difficult to schedule appointments
for potential families to get to the foster homes to see the
cats. Since this event was such a success, we plan on offering
one or two open adoption events each month, please stay tuned
to find out the dates and locations! Between events, we will
continue to schedule adoption appointments for approved applicants
to meet our wonderful cats. |
