Pet Food Drive

Angelcat Haven Feline Rescue is again asking the public for dry cat food donations for seniors of Bristol Elder Services. Bristol Elder Services runs the Pets Eat Too! program, started in 2006 by Howie Galitsky, a Bristol Elder Services employee. The program runs on donations from various animal organizations and individuals, and in these bleak economic times, the need has never been greater. There are individuals participating in the Meals on Wheels program who lack the funds to buy food for their pets and end up sharing their own meals with them. Each day, Bristol Elder Services delivers over 550 hot meals to senior citizens in Fall River, and another 1,226 to outlying towns, including the greater Taunton, New Bedford and Attleboro areas. Angelcat Haven has been coordinating cat food donations for pets and people in need, and their supply has run out. "These are caring people who loves their pets," says Angela Frankudakis, president of Angelcat Haven. "And for many people, these pets are the only companionship they have."

Angelcat Haven is also holding a food drive called "Food for Ferals." Over 70% of cats who enter the nation's animal control pounds and shelters are killed. That number jumps to virtually 100% for feral cats. There are feral cats living marginal existences in the area and with the cold winter months ahead, the need to protect these cats and provide food to them is vital to their survival. Angelcat plans to help reduce the number of feral cats through the trap-neuter- return-maintain method (TNRM) – a humane approach for feral cats. Through this program, free-roaming outdoor cats are humanely trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated and ear tipped. Ear tipping is a universal sign that the cat has been spayed and vaccinated. Volunteers also ensure the cats have shelter, water and a steady diet.

All donations will go directly to seniors of Bristol Elder Services or to the "Food for Ferals" program. Simply mark on the bags the cause you are donating to and they will be kept separate. Donations can be dropped off at Desco Electronics, 36 Bacon Square, Plainville and Attleboro Old Barn, 65 S Main, Attleboro.
