Angela Frankudakis is Founder and President of Angelcat Haven Feline Rescue, an all-volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing homeless and stray cats in Plainville and surrounding towns. Founded in November 2006 the group has rescued and adopted out over 170 cats and just recently took in their 200th cat.
Local animal shelters are overburdened with abandoned and unwanted pets. Due to lack of space and funds shelter workers are forced to turn away or euthanize healthy animals simply because they don’t have room for them all. After many years of service volunteering for a local animal shelter, Angela started Angelcat Haven Feline Rescue to help save the cats that fall through the cracks of these shelters. The group puts every effort, where possible, to work with, and socialize, the rescued stray and feral cats so that they can live out their lives in a warm, loving and permanent home.

Under Angela’s leadership and direction, Angelcat has recruited over 30 volunteers, each dedicated to the mission of reducing the homeless cat overpopulation and educating the public about the importance of spaying and neutering their pets – all to provide the most efficient, effective means of putting an end to the euthanasia epidemic in our region.

Angela plays a key role in all aspects of the organization. She initializes and coordinates the trap/neuter/release program for feral cats as well as chairing all of the fundraising events, including bi-weekly adoption events, an annual charity yard sale, craft fair, and low-cost spay/neuter program. She is the liaison for local veterinarians who provide low-cost medical care and spay/neuter surgeries for the cats. She maintains foster homes for the hundreds of cats that pass through the organization and ensures the animals’ well-being and healthcare by working directly with veterinarians which includes driving the cats to and from the vet office day or night – whenever needed. Angela designed and manages the feline log and maintains the financial records. Finally, she has established partnerships and support from local individuals and key businesses which in turn has strengthened the organization’s ties to the community.

In addition to her role as President of Angelcat Haven Feline Rescue, Angela is currently fostering two teenage girls, and has welcomed three other foster children into her home in the past. She coaches girls field hockey, runs her own business, Desco Electronics, Inc. and is active in local politics – all of which is a testament to her positive impact in the community.
Angela is an incredibly caring soul whose vision is that of a world in which there are no more unwanted companion animals. She serves as a role model for all women who care to make their community a safe and healthy place for people and animals. Her strong leadership skills, coupled with her intelligence, determination, and ability to multi-task, makes Angela an ideal candidate for this award.

She sets her mind to her goals with an unwavering optimism and boundless energy and ultimately gets the job done. She is passionate about what she believes in, and people respect her. Angela is the essence of a compassionate woman – successfully helping the community through her leadership and tireless efforts. It is not only her strength and purpose but her competence and courage that is most admirable. Her many accomplishments are inspiring and she is truly making a difference in the world.

We nominate Angela Frankudakis for the Outstanding Volunteer Award because of her dedication to the cause of saving hundreds of healthy animals in Plainville and surrounding towns, educating the public about the importance of spay/neuter and her desire to help people to adopt healthy cats and afford the cost to spay & neuter their pets. Angela’s hard work and resolve help to save precious lives and make our community a better place in which to live. I hope you will consider her for this prestigious award.
